Early on October 18, 2024, police in Wales police received a phone call from a member of the public. It was the start of a mystery that remains unsolved four months later. <\/p>\n

There was a body in the water of the Claerwen Reservoir, the caller said, according to a statement released by Dyfed-Powys Police on Sunday. <\/strong> <\/p>\n

The reservoir is a remote and picturesque spot in central Wales, about 90 miles northwest of the capital, Cardiff. <\/p>\n

An autopsy later established that the body was that of a White <\/strong>man aged between 30 and 60 years old, about 6 feet (1.8 meters) tall, wearing a wetsuit, and had been in the water for up to 12 weeks. <\/strong> <\/p>\n

Police identified the XL-sized wetsuit as the \u201cAgile\u201d design made by Zone 3, which is advertised on its manufacturer\u2019s website as suitable for those \u201cnew to open water swimming or triathlon.\u201d <\/p>\n

The nearest bus stop is about a four-hour walk away and so \u201cit is unlikely he walked there in a wetsuit,\u201d the spokesperson added. <\/p>\n

Several signs around the reservoir warn against swimming there, they said. <\/p>\n

\u201cIt is very unusual for a body to be found \u2026 and to be a few months into an investigation with no confirmed identification.\u201d <\/p>\n

Requests to other police forces in the UK and Interpol, the international police agency, as well as forensic tests haven\u2019t yielded any clues about the man\u2019s identity, the spokesperson said. <\/p>\n

Nonetheless, the man\u2019s death is not \u201ccurrently thought to be suspicious,\u201d an inquest opened on Monday by assistant coroner Rachel Knight heard, according to the BBC. <\/p>\n

At the moment, police believe the man entered the water voluntarily sometime last summer. <\/p>\n

Knight adjourned the inquest after recording that the cause of death was \u201cpending further investigation,\u201d and called for public help in identifying the man. <\/p>\n

The police appealed for information \u201cfrom anyone who has visited the Claerwen reservoir, or the surrounding area, between the beginning of July 2024 and October 18, and haven\u2019t spoken to police yet,\u201d Detective Inspector Anthea Ponting said in the police statement. <\/p>\n

\u201cWe also continue to appeal for anyone who does have information \u2013 who thinks that something mentioned could relate to a missing person in their own life\/or who they may know \u2013 to come forward. <\/p>\n

\u201cWe are keeping an open mind into the circumstances and continue to work towards finding out who he was, any family and what happened to him,\u201d she added. <\/p>\n

The Claerwen reservoir is one of several in the area that provides water to Birmingham, the UK\u2019s second-largest city. <\/p>\n

Unauthorized swimming in these reservoirs is prohibited and can be dangerous due to their cold, deep water which can also hide equipment underneath. <\/p>\n<\/p>\n
