{"id":14816,"date":"2025-03-19T15:04:19","date_gmt":"2025-03-19T15:04:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dailywashingtoninsider.com\/index.php\/2025\/03\/19\/fury-towards-netanyahu-as-israelis-protest-renewed-war-in-gaza\/"},"modified":"2025-03-19T15:04:19","modified_gmt":"2025-03-19T15:04:19","slug":"fury-towards-netanyahu-as-israelis-protest-renewed-war-in-gaza","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dailywashingtoninsider.com\/index.php\/2025\/03\/19\/fury-towards-netanyahu-as-israelis-protest-renewed-war-in-gaza\/","title":{"rendered":"Fury towards Netanyahu as Israelis protest renewed war in Gaza"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm8frrk8k004n26p3ex2we50i@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">            Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu faced fury from protesters outside Israel\u2019s parliament, the Knesset, in Jerusalem, a day after he resumed the war in Gaza, shattering the two-month-old ceasefire with Hamas.    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm8frrmfn00003b6mugqb0y7h@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">            On Highway 1 \u2013 the main road connecting Tel Aviv to Jerusalem \u2013 some protesters held a banner reading: \u201cThe future of the coalition or the future of Israel.\u201d    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm8frv6tj000b3b6mj0137lea@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">            The banner alludes to how, over nearly 18 months of war and fragile ceasefires, Netanyahu has been accused of prioritizing the solidity of his governing coalition over the security of his country, as well as the lives of Israeli hostages and Palestinians in Gaza.    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm8frvsnt000f3b6maqlhu0ts@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">            Those accusations have been made with fresh anger after Israel bombarded Gaza overnight into Tuesday and killed more than 400 people, according to Gaza\u2019s Health Ministry, in one of the war\u2019s deadliest days.    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm8fsbjx2000q3b6mqtp5hob0@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">            For Netanyahu, the resumption of war has helped shore up his shaky coalition amid his ongoing corruption trial and ahead of a key vote on Israel\u2019s budget. But for many Israelis, the renewed fighting has stirred feelings of despair \u2013 and rage with the government. And for Palestinians, it means the end of the respite that lasted just two months.    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm8fs20gg000l3b6mcsbcn5v9@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">            Protesting alongside thousands outside the Knesset, Elias Shraga, chairman for the Movement for Quality Government in Israel, a legal watchdog, said that Netanyahu\u2019s war in Gaza was being waged to keep him in power.    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm8fsckoi000z3b6m2l2az5tb@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">            Netanyahu had been scheduled to testify in his corruption trial on Tuesday, but the hearing was canceled due to the resumption of military activities in Gaza just hours before he was due in court. The prime minister denies any wrongdoing.    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm8fsd49k00143b6mthe9h0gv@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">            \u201cOne reason he wanted to escape justice is because he wants to keep his coalition and he is ready to sacrifice his people, this is it. It\u2019s very simple,\u201d said Shraga, adding that the resumption of fighting showed once more that Netanyahu \u201cdoesn\u2019t care about the hostages\u201d in Gaza who were due to be freed under the ceasefire deal.    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm8fsd49k00153b6m1jdrffy8@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">            \u201cWe are sacrificing our kinds in this while, [while] our [Prime Minister] sells his soul,\u201d said Shraga.    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm8fsd49k00163b6m0r46tfsc@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">            Netanyahu has argued that military pressure on Hamas is necessary to return the hostages.    <\/p>\n<h2 class=\"subheader inline-placeholder subheader\" data-editable=\"text\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/subheader\/instances\/cm8fsgvs2001e3b6m4ust6v21@published\" data-component-name=\"subheader\" id=\"taking-away-our-democracy\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">        \u2018Taking away our democracy\u2019<\/h2>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm8fsciuq000u3b6mrlef4b1r@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">            Opposition leader Yair Lapid joined Wednesday\u2019s demonstration, which he said aim to \u201cmake sure that the government understands they cannot do whatever they want.\u201d    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm8fsfue600193b6mz1usdlmy@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">            Already, the resumption of fighting appears to have won Netanyahu back the support of Itamar Ben-Gvir, the far-right minister who quit the government in protest against January\u2019s ceasefire deal. On Tuesday, shortly after the fresh bombardment of Gaza, his Jewish Power party announced it would rejoin Netanyahu\u2019s coalition.    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm8fsln10001n3b6mq0eyeb7y@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">            \u201cI\u2019m very concerned about the possibility of a civil war. This nation is divided. It sometimes seems there\u2019s no way out. People don\u2019t believe in democracy anymore. They don\u2019t believe in the life that we had before everything started. You see the division: religion on one side, secularism on the other. It seems hopeless,\u201d Yairi said.    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm8fsnzm4001r3b6md9c17kmj@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">            However, others outside the Knesset were showing support for Netanyahu.
