Maximum temperatures in Balochistan, in country\u2019s southwest, could reach up to 49 degrees Celsius (120 Fahrenheit).    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm9i2qq1m00083b6mamxclvy3@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">            That\u2019s like living in Death Valley \u2013 the hottest and driest place in North America \u2013 where summer daytime temperatures often climb to similar levels.    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm9i2qq1m00093b6mqyjplu3d@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">            Ayoub Khosa, who lives in Balochistan\u2019s Dera Murad Jamali city, said the heatwave had arrived with an \u201cintensity that caught many off guard,\u201d creating severe challenges for its residents.    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm9i2qq1m000b3b6m9jx4gzjy@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">            \u201cThis has intensified the impact of the heat, making it harder for people to cope,\u201d he said.    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm9i2qq1m000c3b6mbjnnsdx1@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">            Neighboring India has also been experiencing extreme heat that arrived earlier than usual and its metrological department warned people in parts of the country to brace for an \u201cabove-normal number of heatwave days\u201d in April.    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm9i2qq1m000d3b6mxm60s28x@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">            Maximum temperatures in capital Delhi, a city of more than 16 million, have already crossed 40 degrees Celsius (104 Fahrenheit) at least three times this month \u2013 up to 5 degrees above the seasonal average \u2013 the meteorological department said.    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm9i2qq1m000e3b6mjtemvnay@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">            The searing heat is being faced in several neighboring states too, including Rajasthan in the northwest, where laborers and farmers are struggling to cope and reports of illness are beginning to emerge.    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm9i2qq1m000f3b6maghi07gh@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">            Maximum recorded temperatures in parts of Rajasthan reached 44 degrees Celsius (111 Fahrenheit) on Monday, according to the meteorological department.    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm9i2qq1m000g3b6mabtgg325@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">            Anita Soni, from the women\u2019s group Thar Mahila Sansthan, said the heat is much worse than other years and she is worried about how it will impact children and women in the state.    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm9i2qq1m000h3b6mtuh0oh1o@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">            When the laborers or farmers head out, there is an instant lack of drinking water, people often feel like vomiting, they fall sick, or they feel dizzy, she said.    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm9i2qq1m000i3b6mz1zj1u69@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">            Farmer Balu Lal said people are already falling sick due to working in it. \u201cWe cannot even stand to work in it,\u201d he said. \u201cWhen I am out, I feel that people would burn due to the heat outside.\u201d    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm9i2qq1m000j3b6mp4fcvdsj@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">            Lal said he worries about his work and how he will earn money for his family. \u201cWe have nowhere else to go,\u201d he said.    <\/p>\n<h2 class=\"subheader inline-placeholder subheader\" data-editable=\"text\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/subheader\/instances\/cm9i2qslp000m3b6m4cj4w2sq@published\" data-component-name=\"subheader\" id=\"testing-survivability-limits\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">        Testing survivability limits<\/h2>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm9i2o8jl00003b6mdvpdr78a@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">            Experts say the rising temperatures are testing human limits.    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm9i2r8z9000r3b6mer8a8tvu@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">            Extreme heat has killed tens of thousands of people in India and Pakistan in recent decades and climate experts have warned that by 2050 India will be among the first places where temperatures will cross survivability limits.    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm9i2r8z9000s3b6mkp1xkb4p@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">            Under heatwave conditions, pregnant women and their unborn children are particularly at risk. \u201cThere is unexplained pregnancy loss and early babies,\u201d said Neha Mankani, an advisor at the International Confederation of Midwives in Karachi.    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm9i2r8z9000t3b6msp4n6tsu@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">            \u201cIn the summers, 80% of babies are born preterm with respiratory issues because of the weather. We also see an increase in pregnancy induced hypertension, (which could) lead to preeclampsia \u2013 the leading cause of maternal mortality.\u201d    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm9i2r8z9000u3b6m78dgyvqy@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">            India and Pakistan, both countries with glaring disparities in development, are expected to be among the nations worst affected by the climate crisis \u2013 with more than 1 billion people predicted to be impacted on the subcontinent.    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm9i2r8z9000v3b6miz4ldob6@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">            The cascading effects will be devastating. Likely consequences range from a lack of food and drought to flash floods from melting ice caps, according to Mehrunissa Malik, a climate change and sustainability expert from Pakistan\u2019s capital Islamabad.    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm9i2r8z9000w3b6m8jskhp7n@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">            Communities without access to cooling measures, adequate housing and those who rely on the elements for their livelihoods will feel the effects much more acutely, said Malik.    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm9i2r8z9000x3b6m4du9z51h@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">            \u201cFor farmers, the weather is erratic and difficult to predict,\u201d she said. \u201cThe main challenge is the fact that temperatures (are) rising at a time when crops aren\u2019t at the stage to be harvested. They start getting ready earlier, yields get lower, and in this dry heat they need more water\u2026 If your plants are still young, severe heat causes little chance of them making it.\u201d    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm9i2r8z9000y3b6mpgfisquv@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">            Tofiq Pasha, a farmer and environmental activist from Karachi, said summers begin much earlier now.    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm9i2r8z9000z3b6mot5hafbr@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">            His home province, Sindh, which, along with Balochistan, has recorded some of the hottest global temperatures in recent years, suffered a major drought during the winter months and the little rainfall has led to water shortages, he said.    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm9i2r8z900103b6my4xfxf55@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">            \u201cThis is going to be a major livelihood issue among farmers,\u201d Pasha said, explaining how temperatures also affect the arrival of pests. \u201cFlowers don\u2019t set, they fall, fruits don\u2019t set, they fall, you have pest attacks, they decimate the crop, sometimes it gets too hot\u2026 the cycles are messed. Food production is extremely affected.\u201d    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm9i2r8z900113b6mbhk9pcbn@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">            Heatwaves have in the past have increased demand for electricity, leading to coal shortages while leaving millions without power.
