Ukraine intercepted 476 out of a record 539 Russian drones, according to the country\u2019s air force. It said Russia also launched 11 cruise and ballistic missiles.    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmcodfdal001h3b6m5eg5fnq5@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">            Thousands of residents spent the night in shelters, including in subway stations or underground parking lots, as explosions and the sound of drones echoed through the city in the early hours of Friday morning.    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmcocrjs500103b6m03068ua8@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">            \u201cAbsolutely horrible and sleepless night in Kyiv. One of the worst so far,\u201d said Ukraine\u2019s Minister of Foreign Affairs Andrii Sybiha.<strong> <\/strong>Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky called it \u201cone of the most large-scale air attacks\u201d the country had seen.    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmcognbgi00013b6mf39zsvxj@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">            \u201cNotably, the first air raid alerts in our cities and regions yesterday began to blare almost simultaneously with media reports discussing a phone call between President Trump and Putin,\u201d Zelensky said. \u201cYet again, Russia is showing it has no intention of ending the war and terror.\u201d    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmcocnpwb000x3b6mkbykmct0@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">            The strikes sparked fires in buildings and structures across several city districts, and partially destroying multi-story buildings, according to the State Emergency Service of Ukraine. Earlier this week Ukraine\u2019s foreign minister said that in June alone, Russia launched over 330 missiles, including nearly 80 ballistic missiles, 5,000 combat drones, and 5,000 gliding bombs against Ukraine.    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmcod1hy2001b3b6m40vq3jdt@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">            Before Friday, the last record-setting night of attacks came just five days ago \u2013 when Russia fired 537 drones and missiles at Ukraine.    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmco78y16000a3b6mlebbt3p7@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">            On Thursday, Trump held a nearly hour-long call with Putin and voiced frustration afterward about the stalled ceasefire negotiations.    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmco78y16000b3b6mwb2kv4xa@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">            \u201cWe had a call. It was a pretty long call. We talked about a lot of things, including Iran and we also talked about, as you know, the war with Ukraine,\u201d Trump said. \u201cI\u2019m not happy about that.\u201d    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmco78y16000c3b6mwxh5e5se@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">            Asked if he felt he made progress with Putin on a deal with Ukraine, Trump said firmly: \u201cNo.\u201d He added, \u201cI didn\u2019t make any progress with him today at all.\u201d    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmcocubjt00133b6mhi6i08nt@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">            Trump said he would speak with Zelensky early Friday morning, saying he was \u201cvery disappointed\u201d with his conversation with Putin, whom he believes is \u201cnot looking to stop\u201d the war.    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmco78y16000d3b6mm7r3kagw@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">            The strikes come as the Trump administration pauses some weapons shipments to Ukraine, including air defense missiles, following a review of military spending and American support to foreign countries.    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmco78y16000e3b6mi5efkccw@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">            Trump acknowledged said that the decision had been made to protect US stockpiles.    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmco78y16000f3b6mh1worp3l@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">            The US has been the biggest single donor of military aid to Ukraine since Russia launched its full-scale invasion in 2022, supplying Ukraine with air defense systems, drones, rocket launchers, radars, tanks and anti-armor weapons, leading to concerns over dwindling US stockpiles.    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmco78y16000g3b6mi0a1xse3@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">            But the balance of aid to Ukraine has changed significantly since Trump returned to power, casting doubt over the future of US support for Kyiv.    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmco78y16000h3b6mktgi3mkj@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">            Trump and Putin did not discuss the pause in shipments to Ukraine during their call, according to Russian state media TASS, citing a Kremlin aide.
