{"id":4486,"date":"2024-06-12T15:08:05","date_gmt":"2024-06-12T15:08:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dailywashingtoninsider.com\/index.php\/2024\/06\/12\/hyper-realistic-humanoid-robots-could-be-used-in-psychotherapy\/"},"modified":"2024-06-12T15:08:05","modified_gmt":"2024-06-12T15:08:05","slug":"hyper-realistic-humanoid-robots-could-be-used-in-psychotherapy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dailywashingtoninsider.com\/index.php\/2024\/06\/12\/hyper-realistic-humanoid-robots-could-be-used-in-psychotherapy\/","title":{"rendered":"Hyper-realistic humanoid robots could be used in psychotherapy"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p>A factory in China is developing hyper-realistic humanoid robots that could be used in psychotherapy and counselling.<\/p>\n<p>In the factory in <strong>China&#8217;s<\/strong> northeastern coastal city of Dalian, neck-length silicone masks lie alongside silicone arms and feet, while disembodied heads sit on display and humanoid robots in various stages of construction stand nearby.<\/p>\n<div class=\"sdc-site-outbrain sdc-site-outbrain--AR_6\" aria-hidden=\"true\" data-component-name=\"sdc-site-outbrain\" data-target=\"\" data-widget-mapping=\"\" data-installation-keys=\"\">    <\/div>\n<p>Drawings of robot designs adorn a wall.<\/p>\n<p>Humanoid robots are the most complex type of robot to build and these ones use <strong>artificial intelligence<\/strong> to learn how to recognise human behaviour and mimic it.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;There are many basic models and algorithms that are commonly open source, which everyone uses,&#8221; says Ex-Robot chief executive Li Boyang.<\/p>\n<div class=\"ad ad--teads\">        <\/div>\n<p>&#8220;However, we concentrate more on how to enable the AI to recognise and express expressions and emotions.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>As an Ex-Robots worker moves her head, smiles and sticks out her tongue, a humanoid robot mimics her movement thanks to tiny motors installed in several spaces in its head.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The model we&#8217;re making is multi-modal and capable of emotional expression. It can perceive the surrounding environment and produce appropriate facial feedback,&#8221; says Li.<\/p>\n<p>It takes from two weeks to a month to produce a humanoid robot, with prices ranging from 1.5 million yuan (\u00a3162,000) to 2 million yuan.<\/p>\n<p>Li believes humanoid robots will be integrated into healthcare and education.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Psychological counselling and health are certainly future application scenarios.
