New exam questions have been added on the topics of antisemitism, the right of the state of Israel to exist and Jewish life in Germany,\u201d it said.    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph-primary-core-light\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/clxx9704500053b6kim93pb4q@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">            The war in Gaza, and Berlin\u2019s strong support for Israel, has fueled much discussion in Germany. In the aftermath of the October 7 attacks, German lawmakers, including Chancellor Olaf Scholz, reiterated that Israel\u2019s security is Germany\u2019s \u201creason of state,\u201d or matter of national interest.    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph-primary-core-light\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/clxx97nd800073b6kr9xescl0@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">            But other voices in the country have accused authorities of going too far, infringing on the rights of pro-Palestinians to freedom of speech and freedom of assembly.    <\/p>\n<h2 class=\"subheader\" data-editable=\"text\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/subheader\/instances\/clxx9dss9000e3b6kel9lmglz@published\" data-component-name=\"subheader\" id=\"a-crystal-clear-red-line\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">    \u2018A crystal clear red line\u2019<\/h2>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph-primary-core-light\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/clxx2i9g1000o3b6kub5booo9@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">            The legislation is being introduced nationwide after the eastern state of Saxony-Anhalt also required citizenship applicants to recognize Israel\u2019s right to exist in December.    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph-primary-core-light\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/clxx2okrp000s3b6knx2v69ks@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">            The implementation of the law on a federal level was advocated by the center-right Christian Democratic Union (CDU) party last year. The idea was also well-received by other parties in the Bundestag.    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph-primary-core-light\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/clxx2ajgc00033b6kjb064emg@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">            Under the changes, the process for obtaining citizenship has also been sped up. Those who work in Germany and are considered \u201cwell integrated\u201d can now obtain citizenship after just five years instead of eight.    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph-primary-core-light\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/clxx2ajgc00043b6kqrndwpbq@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">            Applicants no longer need to give up the citizenship of their previous country \u2013 something that used to be a requirement in Germany for first-generation migrants.    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph-primary-core-light\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/clxx2ajgd00073b6kde3rlb4y@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">            Germany\u2019s Interior Minister Nancy Faeser has welcomed Thursday\u2019s changes as a \u201ccommitment to a modern Germany.\u201d    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph-primary-core-light\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/clxx2ajgd00083b6ktbohszre@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">            \u201cWhoever shares our values and makes an effort can now get a German passport more quickly and are not required to give up a part of their identity with the former citizenship,\u201d she continued.    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph-primary-core-light\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/clxx2ajgd00093b6kfibw6jkd@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">            \u201cWe have also made it just as clear: Whoever doesn\u2019t share our values, will not be able to get a German passport. Here we have drawn a crystal clear red line and made the law much stronger than before. Anti-Semitism, racism and other forms of contempt for humanity rule out naturalization. There is no tolerance for that.\u201d    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph-primary-core-light\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/clxx2ajgd000a3b6kgqvrmf8e@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">            The reform comes as a new report from RIAS, an organization monitoring antisemitism in Germany, found that antisemitic incidents in the country rose around 83% last year, significantly increasing after the attack on Israel on October 7 and Israel\u2019s eight-month military offensive in Gaza.
