Their two children flew back with them on Thursday from Turkey.    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph-primary-core-light\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/clzcnaf6g0005396k8xkno7ot@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">            The boy and girl \u201cfound out that they were Russian only when the plane took off from Ankara,\u201d&nbsp;Kremlin&nbsp;spokesman Dmitry Peskov told journalists.    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph-primary-core-light\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/clzcnaf6g0006396k8g389pao@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">            Russian President Vladimir Putin greeted them on the tarmac in Spanish as they didn\u2019t speak Russian and didn\u2019t even know who Putin was, according to Peskov.    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph-primary-core-light\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/clzcnaf6g0007396kbw3dxrx6@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">            \u201cWhen the children came down the plane\u2019s steps \u2013 they don\u2019t speak Russian \u2013 and Putin greeted them in Spanish, he said \u2018Buenas noches,\u2019\u201d Peskov said. \u201cThey asked their parents yesterday who it was that was meeting them, they didn\u2019t even know who Putin was.\u201d    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph-primary-core-light\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/clzcnaf6g0008396kvaj07ew7@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">            After coming down the plane\u2019s stairs, Dultseva, holding her tears, hugged Putin, who was standing on the red carpet rolled on the tarmac holding bouquets of flowers. Putin kissed Dultseva on the cheek and shoulder, and gave her and her daughter bouquets.    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph-primary-core-light\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/clzcnaf6g0009396kqyrszwv0@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">            Putin briefly hugged Dultsev too and then the rest of the released Russians, before the group walked together on the red carpet away from the plane.    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph-primary-core-light\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/clzcotls40027396knmt6kq9e@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">            Thursday\u2019s massive swap&nbsp;was the result of years of complicated behind-the-scenes negotiations involving the US, Russia, Belarus and Germany, ultimately leading Berlin to agree to Moscow\u2019s key demand \u2013 releasing convicted&nbsp;Russian assassin Vadim Krasikov.    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph-primary-core-light\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/clzcotorm0029396k8fa3ppez@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">            A total of eight people,&nbsp;including Krasikov,&nbsp;were swapped back to Russia in exchange for the release of 16 people who were held in Russian detention, including former US Marine Paul Whelan, Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Gershkovich and two other Americans.    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph-primary-core-light\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/clzcnaf6g000a396ke2mwlqw6@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">            Dultsev and Dultseva pleaded guilty to espionage in a court in Ljubljana on Wednesday and were sentenced to serve time in prison.    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph-primary-core-light\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/clzcnaf6g000b396k6s4xe97j@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">            While living undercover in Slovenia, Dultsev posed as an IT businessman named Ludvig Gisch. After pleading guilty, he was sentenced to more than a year and a half in prison, which the court said was equivalent to time spent. He was set to be deported to Russia and was banned from entering Slovenia for five years.    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph-primary-core-light\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/clzcnaf6g000c396kjttsrumv@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">            Dultseva posed as an art dealer and gallery owner and went by the name Maria Rosa Mayer Munos.
